A tribute to those masters of mayhem, who stepped out of the squared circle and onto the silver screen.
10. George "The Animal" Steele - Ed Wood. This biographical film explores the life and works of arguably Hollywood's worst director. In many films, Ed used Tor Johnson, a pro wrestler turned b-movie actor. In this Tim Burton film, George plays Tor. Interesting, a pro wrestler playing a pro wrestler playing an actor.
9. Bill Goldberg - The Longest Yard. This remake starring Adam Sandler features a few professional wrestlers, namely Bill Goldberg. It also had Kevin Nash, Steve Austin, and an unknown who would later become the Great Khali of WWE fame.
8. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper - They Live. At Wrestlemania 3, Piper wrestled his last match, wanting to turn his career around towards acting. He starred in a number of bad films, but it was his role in the cult John Carpenter hit They Live that he'll always be known for, in acting anyway. Piper returned to wrestling at Wrestlemania 5.
7. Tyler Mane - X-Men. Former WCW wrestler known as Big Sky, Tyler Mane plays Wolverines arch nemesis Sabertooth. His big role brought him more success than wrestling ever did, yet he disappeared after this film.
6. Andre the Giant - The Princess Bride. The man known as the 8th Wonder of the World never captured the Heavyweight Championship, but certainly captured our hearts as the lovable giant in this classic film.
5. Jesse Ventura - Predator. Former Navy Seal turned professional wrestler, Jesse sought out new challenges. While still a fixture in the WWF as an announcer, Jesse tried his hand at acting, scoring a supporting role in Schwarzenegger's hit movie Predator. Jesse made appearances in other action films before moving on to radio, television and as Governor of Minnesota.
4. The Rock - The Mummy Returns. The Rock made his film debut as the Scorpion King in the sequel to The Mummy. He went on to star in the spin-off The Scorpion King. The Rock eventually scored more than 20 films, which scored either strong misses or soft hits.
3. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin - The Expendables. Retired from active wrestling, Stone Cold has appeared in a few films and episodes of Nash Bridges. But he really had his big break in the Expendables, rubbing action hero elbows with the likes of Jason Statham, Jet Li, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, and more.
2. Randy "Macho Man" Savage - Spider-Man. Dropping off the Pro Wrestling radar, Macho Man returns in fine form as Spider-Man's wrestling opponent Bonesaw McGraw. His dominating presence and distinct voice is classic Randy on the Silver Screen.
1. Hulk Hogan - Rocky III. For a charity event, Rocky Balboa was to face the wrestling champion Thunderlips. Sylvester Stallone casted Hulk Hogan, a relative unknown in the Pro Wrestling world outside of Verne Gagne's AWA territory. Going against Verne's wishes, Hogan took the role. Despite the instant popularity, Gagne tried to bury Hogan in the AWA. Hogan left for Vince McMahon's WWF, and the rest is history.
