Top 10 Godzilla's Famous Enemies

A tribute to the many monsters Godzilla faced in his long career. Some Deadly, some strange, and all made of rubber suits.

10. Gigan - With air speeds of Mach 3, space travel, hammer-hooks for hands and a buzzsaw abdomen, Gigan is a formidable foe. When things go wrong, he can encase himself in diamond. After losing his first encounter to Earth's King Of All Monsters, he returns with King Ghidorah, another mighty foe of Godzilla's with a score to settle.

9. Megalon - If you think cockroaches are tough to kill, how about one that's 55 meters tall and weighing in at 40,000 tons. Able to fly at Mach 3, arms that work as drills, launching napalm bombs from its mouth and shooting electrical bolts from his horn, this was Godzilla's biggest pest.

8. Biollante - A Godzilla/plant hybrid, Biollante's powers included a radioactive spray from its mouth and tendrils, choking vines and super regenerative powers. Biollante scored a victory over Godzilla after raining down her spores and firing her acid like spray was just too much for the Thunder Lizard. After Godzilla went back to the sea Biollante returned to the sky.

7. Destroyah - Killing Godzilla's son, Destroyah robbed Godzilla of any shred of sympathy. Armed with an oxygen destroying beam, flight, multiple forms and a laser horn, Godzilla employed his full destructive rage to defeat this beast.

6. Hedorah - a.k.a. The Smog Monster, this favorite monster of Godzilla fans taught us the dangers of waste and pollution, long before it was a political agenda. Multiple forms, a corrosive body and laser beams that turn to toxic smoke on impact were among his many talents. Looking like a giant booger, Hedorah proved to be a difficult, and nauseating foe.

5. Mecha-King Ghidorah - How do you make a bad ass monster even badder? Make him part cyborg. Ghidorah returns again, even more menacing than before. Only this time, he is under mankind's control to help repel Godzilla's constant attacks on Japan.

4. Space Godzilla - Armed with a corona beam, super regenerative abilities, and able to create gravity tornadoes, these are just a few of his talents. Space Godzilla comes to Earth from a black hole looking for a fight. He transforms the landscape with giant crystal shards converting the land into a suitable environment, condusive of his cosmic power.

3. Mothra - Don't let it's cute appearance fool you. Mothra has been Godzilla's most formidable foe. In fact, Mothra has faced Godzilla several times, and is undefeated. Even if she falls, her larva pick up the fight. She is worshiped by islanders as a god.

2. Mechagodzilla - Perhaps Godzilla's best opponent. Not his toughest, but certainly memorable. In fact, he is the ultimate expression of the Godzilla franchise. Godzilla is the result of nature fighting back against technology, specifically nuclear technology. Mechagodzilla is the ultimate in technology. It's nature vs science. Even in defeat, Mechagodzilla returns several times, with noticeable upgrades.

1. King Ghidorah - Godzilla's most memorable enemy. King Ghidorah came to Earth for one thing, to destroy. Godzilla has faced this monster numerous times, and often with the help of others. Ghidorah even took on all the inhabitants of Monster Island by himself in a single battle royal. All hail to the King.
